What we found
This roof isn’t a straightforward walk. At 12/12 pitch and multiple stories, most of it isn’t safely walkable — the drone did the work a ladder and a pair of boots can’t.
Two things stood out. First, we found actual physical damage at one of the hip ridges: the ridge cap shingles were torn and lifted, with the underlying material exposed to weather. That’s not cosmetic — an open ridge line is where water gets in. Second, we marked and photographed hail-strike test squares across several separate facets (same chalk-and-circle method used at every Texan Roofworks inspection), not just one slope, which is what tells you whether you’re looking at isolated wear or roof-wide storm damage.
Repair vs. replacement reasoning
This one didn’t need a full replacement. The torn ridge cap was a defined, isolated failure point, and the marked hits across the other facets weren’t dense enough to call for tearing off a 5,822 sq ft, 39-facet roof. We scoped it as a targeted repair — fix what’s actually broken and reinspect the surrounding area, rather than replacing a roof that doesn’t need it.
