When to file — and when not to
The policyholder decides whether to file a claim after reviewing the policy and speaking with the carrier. Our role is to document visible roof conditions and provide a written contractor estimate; we do not advise on coverage or negotiate a settlement.
Claim notice deadlines
Insurance policies can contain notice, reporting, and filing requirements. If you suspect storm damage, document it promptly and review your own policy or contact your carrier regarding applicable deadlines. Deadlines and coverage requirements vary by policy. Document suspected damage promptly and review your policy or contact your carrier for guidance.
What we actually do during a claim
Document. EagleView-certified drone imagery of every plane, dated, with annotations the adjuster can read.
Coordinate. At the homeowner’s request, we can meet the carrier’s adjuster to discuss documented roof conditions and construction details.
Supplement. Initial estimates routinely miss code-required items — drip edge, ice & water shield, ridge venting, decking replacement. When additional construction items are discovered, we provide the carrier with an updated contractor estimate and supporting documentation.
Install. If the homeowner authorizes the project, we complete the agreed roofing work, coordinate applicable permits and provide warranty paperwork.
A lot of what we look at turns out to be a maintenance item rather than a claim. When that happens we quote it as a straightforward roof repair and you keep the report on file.
Common reasons claims get denied
Late filing. Long after the storm, with no prior documentation.
No documentation. No photos, no dated record, no proof the damage tied to a covered event.
Adjuster missed it. Hail damage is subtle. Roof conditions can be difficult to see from the ground. Dated photographs can help create a clearer record of visible conditions across each roof plane.
Wear and tear. Carriers won’t cover normal aging. The documentation has to clearly distinguish storm damage from end-of-life shingle wear.
What we don’t do
We don’t pressure-file claims. We don’t knock doors after a storm pushing urgency. We don’t take a deductible discount in exchange for the work (it’s illegal in Texas anyway). We don’t use scare tactics about “catastrophic hidden damage.” If your roof’s fine, we’ll tell you that and you keep the report on file in case the next storm hits harder.
